Dutchess County resident Raysonia M. Owens, age 44, of Hyde Park, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 28, for animal cruelty in connection with the death of a dog on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

According to Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Hyde Park Terrace Apartments on Albany Post Road for an animal complaint and found the dead dog that possibly suffered the fatal injuries from a fall.

An investigation revealed that the dog’s cause of death is consistent with a pre-existing medical condition as opposed to injuries from a fall, and Owens was arrested by deputies, Watterson said.

"At this time, Ms. Owens is accused of causing the dog’s death by failing to provide the necessary treatment for its medical condition," Watterson said.

She was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony and released on an appearance ticket.

Owens is scheduled to appear in court on Mondy, Nov. 11.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Dutchess County SPCA.
